Welcome to the Zach Elementary Parent Teacher Organization
The PTO is an organization of parents and teachers who want to enhance every student's experience. We are excited to be a part of our children's education and helping the staff to achieve great things with our students. We invite you to attend monthly meetings and be an active part and voice in your child's education. Parental involvement is extremely important to the academic success of a child and we are very fortunate to have so many parents that are willing to volunteer within and outside the classroom.
The PTO meets the first Tuesday of the month in the Media Center from 6pm-7pm.  Please join us!

Zach Enrichment Fund (ZEF)

What is the Zach Enrichment Fund?
The PTO developed the Zach Enrichment Fund (formerly known as "The Pledge") to be a simple, efficient way of providing supplemental financial support to our school. 100% of donations remain at Zach to purchase enrichment materials and to fund activities not covered by standard district funding. Contributions replace traditional door-to-door fundraisers such as sales of wrapping paper, candy, magazines, Gold-C books, etc. As a result, both our children and parent volunteers have more time for family and developmental activities. Separate, targeted fundraisers such as book fairs and Original Works, which benefit specific areas of the school, will still be held.

How Do I Contribute?
Contributions may be made in one lump sum, or as pledge with periodic donations throughout the year. Your contribution is completely confidential, tax deductible as allowed by federal law, and eligible for corporate matching. Each contributor will receive a receipt for tax purposes for the year in which the contribution is made. Anyone can donate (relatives, friends, etc.) and there is no minimum contribution. A $100 donation per student represents just $10 per month, although any amount helps our school and is greatly appreciated. You may submit a contribution anytime during the school year.

Click the Enrichment Fund Form for more detailed information and to contribute. For other information contact Ann Henning.

Volunteers Needed

Picture
Zach Elementary is fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who are willing to devote much time and energy to our school. There are numerous opportunities throughout the school year to become involved. Any amount of time that you can give is extremely helpful and appreciated. Zach could not have achieved the level of success without parent and community support.

Registering to Volunteer: All volunteers that help at Zach must be registered with Poudre School District. It is very simple and takes less than five minutes. Go to PSD's volunteer and partnership site.
  1. Read the PSD Volunteer Agreement.
  2. Complete the application online. Once you have finished all screens, press FINISH.
  3. Background Check: The Colorado Bureau of Investigation will complete a background check on all first-time volunteers.
Once you are a registered volunteer with Zach Elementary, you will receive emails with volunteering opportunities and a badge will be printed out for you.

Are you moving?  Moving up to Middle School?

PTO Sponsored Programs

Spirit Wear

Picture
Once a year in the fall, Spirit Wear is ordered for any student or parent that would like to show off their school pride! Prices for shirts and sweatshirts  are very reasonably priced.  Order forms go home with the students in August, and orders are usually filled in early October. You can volunteer by helping to sort the orders when they come in early October. If interested, contact Nikki Holmes.

Scholastic Book Fair

Picture
The book fair is an annual fair in the media center.  The scholastic book fair is a wonderful event, not only does it help raise funds for our media center, it allows you the opportunity to meet the teachers, learn about age appropriate books for your children and meet other parents. There is always a great selection of books, games, posters, pencils and more. In order to make this event successful, we need many volunteers to help. It goes for an entire week with a variety of times and days available for people to help volunteer in 3-4 hour blocks of time.

To get involved in the 2011/2012 book fair please contact Crystal Osthoff and Pam Lewis.

Book Bowl

Picture
The primary objective of the Book Bowl program is to encourage reading among our students. Students in grades 3 and 4 are invited to participate in teams of 6-9 students at their grade level. Students will be given a list of 10 books to choose from. The students will only be required to read one, but will be encouraged to read more if possible. Each student will be assigned to a group which will include one to two adult coaches. Each team will meet weekly with their coach(es) during the lunch hour to discuss the books. At the end of 6-7 weeks, the teams meet to face each other, in a panel format, for 2-3 matches to answer questions about the books. All students, coaches, and staff participating in Book Bowl will also receive a pizza party following the conclusion of the matches. Simply put, Book Bowl is a great way to make reading FUN!!

Each year the Book Bowl Committee seems to get bigger and better! We are fortunate to have a wonderful group of parents that are willing dedicate their time to organizing two fun Book Bowl Competitions each year, 4th grade in the fall and 3rd grade in the winter. For more information on the 4th Grade book bowl, held in December, please contact Jennifer Howard.  For more information on the 3rd Grade book bowl, held in February, please contact Lori Quillen.

Staff Appreciation

Picture
This committee's goal is to recognize and express apprecation for our wonderful staff at Zach.

Staff Appreciation week takes place in the spring and consists of each grade providing a special lunch for the staff. This year we hope to add some additional activities and projects and are eager to hear fresh ideas. The time commitment involved can be as little as attending one meeting to contribute ideas to planning and executing an activity. Please contact Diane Desrosiers or Amy Herzer for more information.

School Picture Day

Picture
The PTO assists the school on picture day, both in the fall and the spring. The time committment is minimal, helping a few hours the day of photos. If you are interested in assisting please contact Denice Lammons.

Fall Family Festival

Picture
Yee Haw! Time to put on your cowboy boots & hats!  It's been an annual tradition for Zach families to gather at the McKee 4H Building at the Budweiser Events Center sometime in the Fall. Families bring a picnic dinner and have a great time dancing with classmates and teachers as well as playing games and winning prizes.

This event needs several volunteers to make it a success. You can donate a cake, work for 30 minutes at a game or help with set up or clean up. To get involved contact Gabi Larkin or Andrea Boncore-Campbell.

Affinity Programs

Picture
Affinity programs are a partnership between our school and a local business, where both the school and the business benefit. How it works is that on a specified date/time, a percentage of all proceeds the business earns will be donated to Zach. This program helps provide funds for much needed resources at Zach. Attendance is very important to help support Zach. For more information contact Pam Lewis.

Original Art Works

Picture
Our  school has once again teamed up with Original Works - the #1 art based program in the country- to offer a very special program that allows you to have your child’s very own artwork reproduced onto a number of professional, full color products!

Your child will be creating their artwork in school, using the regular art curriculum as the basis for their work of art. You will then have the opportunity to order a variety of products with your child’s own artwork featured on each and every product! These products range from magnets, mugs and mouse pads to t-shirts, tote bags and tiles. This year, Original Works has added a stainless steel water bottle, a desk clock, and a child’s wooden plate mat.  Original Works products make delightful keepsakes and unique gifts (Christmas, Birthdays, etc.).

All Original Works proceeds directly support “The Arts” at Zach. Funds are used to bring in all-school performances and assemblies, as well as to purchase additional equipment and supplies to enrich Specials classes and curriculum. For more information, contact Patty Smith or Michelle Athanasiou.

Kindergarten Breakfast

Picture
The Kindergarten Breakfast usually takes place at the end of the first week of school and consists of a light breakfast and coffee for all kindergarten parents. The goal is to provide an opportunity for the parents to socialize and to meet the PTO officers. We would love to have parents who have a kindergartner this year volunteer for this committee.

Cover Girls

Picture
Cover Girls meets once a week in the conference room at Zach. Their purpose is to cover teacher and library books in contact paper which will lengthen the lifespan of the book. There is little commitment needed, come when it's convenient for you and enjoy some good conversation while helping out the school.  Please contact Hidei Formanek or Kristy Rouault for more information.
